Hans Island, Arctic (Canada/Denmark)

The ice is finally melting. Now is the time to buy into the lucrative Northwest Passage and assure yourself a place in history. With global temperatures rising every day, the receding ice of the Arctic beckons back to those exciting Klondike days of fortunes found in unexplored frontiers. Speculators have already started rubbing their hands together in glee thinking about undiscovered oil, precious metals and diamonds in the Arctic. The rush for virgin territory and natural resources worth billions and billions of dollars is on! The purchase of Hans Island offers an unparalleled opportunity to stake your very own Arctic claim.
Ignore those naysayers and whiny environmentalists. Now is the time to cash in on global warming! The polar thaw is revealing all kinds of treasures, especially lucrative new shipping routes. Global warming could open up the Northwest Passage to year-round cargo shipping by 2050. Forget the pesky Panama Canal; once the Northwest Passage is forged, routes from Europe to the Far East will be cut in half. Time is money. With the purchase of Hans Island, you’ll already be there to take advantage of increased traffic in the area - you could open your own resort or gas station on spacious Hans Island. Visitors might include American submarines patrolling the waters or Danish military envoys.

As for getting to Hans Island, you'll need an all-weather, ice-strengthened ship. The inhospitable white wilderness that killed countless explorers and foiled navigators for centuries is a thing of the past. Now Hans Island can also be reached by helicopter! There is no shortage of flat rock to accommodate a helipad. Hans Island is located in the Nares Strait between Canada’s Ellesmere Island and northern Greenland. The barren rock is about one kilometre in diameter, with a cliff on its south end. The island is currently uninhabited except for sporadic visits by Danish seamen and the Canadian Defense Minister. The island includes a Canadian flag, a Danish flag, an inukshuk and a half empty bottle of Cognac. The inukshuk follows the traditional Arctic warring ritual of building ornate rock piles.

Amenities are scarce but there is a tiny wooden hut with a cot, stove, 2 pans and some Tang drink crystals. In recent times, the outhouse has been tipped on its side and used to store planks of wood. Surveys indicate that restoring this most northern outdoor toilet is feasible. Vegetation includes red lichen and hardy Arctic moss. Despite infrequent visitors, both litter and graffiti are present on Hans Island. Included in the sale are 12 rusting oil drums and six discarded gas cylinders on the western side of Hans Island. These remnants could serve as polar bear proof storage containers.

The opportunities for commerce on Hans Island are limited only by your imagination. Land prices are rising as quickly as the ice is melting. Now is the time to stake your claim before somebody else does.
